Mixed-Use Office

Initial Conceptions

This original intention of this project was to use a series of light wells to allow natural light into every office and conference space in the law firm as well as the apartments while managing to keep them visually separated and private both from the street and from each other.

The site of the building is a urban environment where the building is sandwiched between two other buildings. A small alley-way exists on the west portion of the site and must always be kept open and clear. The building is only allowed 3 facades.

The facade of the building is a series of non-uniform arches that form three levels of colonnade along the three exposed faces. The walls peel away from each other, revealing the corners of the building and the wall connection to the roof.

The interior of the light wells are concrete with circular forms between the cores to allow the free flow of air and light. The interior walls are framed plaster to allow for easy and quick manipulation along the diagrammatic plan. The result is an adaptable office that is easy to reconfigure.

Apartment Interior

There are to apartment programs in the building, one studio apartment and one family apartment for 5 person occupancy.
